What is religion?

Who created it?

Who is the founder of religion?

Who speaks and who listens?

Why is the Word in the beginning referred to as the way?

1. What is religion?

Religion is the teachings of God.
Therefore, religion is the superior to all other teachings (Gal 4:3).
It is the highest of all teachings.

Gal 4:3     So also, when we were children, 
               we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world.

The characters used to write the word religion in Chinese (宗敎)
have an interesting meaning:
"Look to the sky to learn how to be dutiful to our Father in heaven."

宗 (the best, the highest) = 宀 (sky, the universe) + 示 (look)

敎 (teachings)

2. Who created religion?

The one and only God, the divine Spirit, created religion (Jn 1:1-5).

John 1:1-5     In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, 
                    and the Word was God.
                    He was with God in the beginning.
                    Through him all thing were made; 
                    without him nothing was made that has been made.
                    In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
                    The light shines in the darkness,
                    but the darkness has not understood it.

3. Who is the founder of religion?

God the Creator founded religion.
In an effort to make himself known to the ignorant (Hos 6:6),
the only true God chose the prophets and apostles to record the Bible
(2 Pe 1:21, Gal 1:11-12).

Hos 6:6          For  I desire mercy, not sacrfice, 
                     and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.

2 Pe 1:21        For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man,
                     but men spoke from God as they were carried along by
                     the Holy Spirit.

Gal 1:11-12     I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached 
                     is not something that man made up. 
                     I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it;
                     rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.   

Thus the Bible is a divine book authored by God (2 Ti 3:16).
God is the founder of religion.
If people want to know the only true God,
they must follow the religion founded by the only true God.
No one who has received the teachings from above or
has learned what true religion is can found his or her own religion.
Any person who does such a thing is a heretic.

2 Ti 3:16     All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for 
                 teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

 4. Who has given religion and who has received it?

God has given religion to sinners (Jn 3:16:  1 Jn 1:1-10).

Jn 3:16     For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
               that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 Jn 1:8-9     If we claim to be without sin,
                   we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
                   If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
                   and forgive us our sins
                   and purify us from all unrighteousness.

5. The Word in the beginning that is the way

Jesus, who served God in him, stated,
I am the way, and the truth, and the life" (Jn 14:6).

Jn 14:6     Jeaus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. 
               No one comes to the Father except through me.

6. The exact nature of God

God is the self-existent, divine Spirit (Ex 3:13-15; Jn 4:24).

Ex 3:13-14   Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them,
                  'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me,
                  'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"
                  God said to Moses, 
                  "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites:
                  I AM has sent me to you.' "
                    
Jn 4:24        God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
